Position: Research Fellow – Center for Sustainable Employment (CSE)

Azim Premji University was established in 2010 by the Azim Premji Foundation. The Foundation works extensively with the public-school systems in many states in India, with a clear purpose – to contribute to a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society. The University is focused on fields of education and development through its programmes of study that prepare professionals with integrity, competence and social commitment. Our research programmes contribute to knowledge relevant to these fields. The University offers liberal undergraduate degrees in Sciences, Economics, Humanities, and post-graduate degrees in the fields of Education, Development, Public Policy, Economics, and Law & Development.

The Centre for Sustainable Employment (CSE) at Azim Premji University, aims to generate and support research in the areas of job creation, employment, and sustainable livelihoods. India is facing a severe crisis of employment and livelihoods and the economic growth has failed to generate secure, regular, and decent incomes for the vast majority. There is urgent need for fresh thinking that does not bind itself to any ideological pre-commitment except the right of every Indian to lead a secure, dignified life in a just and sustainable way. This thinking must be both, anchored in the real-world, and imaginative. CSE has been set up to foster fresh and creative thinking on this urgent and complex issue.

The objective of the role is to carry out research and help with outreach and operations of the Centre for Sustainable Employment. The role involves conducting independent research as well as assisting on ongoing research projects on various aspects of the Indian economy with a focus on the labour market; in particular issues such as quality of work, job creation, structural change, pro-employment policies, skilling etc.

In addition to conducting research, communicating the Centre’s work via social media and the website, and writing policy briefs and op-eds are also part of the role.
